Checkers is considered one of the most important platforms for the promotion of young Croatian talents. The director of the best film is awarded the Golden Pram and 2,000 € provided by the Croatian Film Directors Guild and ZFF, and this year the award goes to the movie Spot directed by Sara Alavanić. The members of this year's jury were David Gašo (last year's winner and the author of the movie Short Cut Grass), Yulia Serdyukova and Daniel Soares, and this is the impression that the movie left on them:

“This unconventionally structured film brimming with ambitious ideas stands out primarily for its unique poetic approach, but also for a convincing insight into the social milieu barely explored in Croatian films. This film is a perfectly executed director’s vision observable through cooperation with actors, impressionistic editing and art department interventions with regard for detail, all which make this world tangible and exciting. The main award in the Checkers program is awarded to the film Spot directed by Sara Alavanić.”
